Invest 94L Forms in the Gulf of Mexico

The first real threat of the year for the United States is a tropical disturbance now located over the Central Gulf of Mexico to the east of Tampico Mexico. Presently, it is now headed northwest aiming at Texas at a speed of 5-10 MPH. With this disturbance is an area of disorganized and heavy thunderstorm activity. However because of fairly high wind shear which is a product of strong upper-level winds, there is a fair amount of dry air mixing with the storm. Because of the wind shear, the disturbance will temporarily be kept at bay. But the wind shear is expected to drop to somewhere in the range of 10 to 20 knots. The disturbance is expected to reach the Texas and Louisiana coasts by either Sunday morning or going into Monday. Because the storm appears to be intensifying late, the chances of a tropical depression forming sets at around a 10% chance before Monday.
